Course purposes: The aim of this course is to provide an overview of atypical parkinsonism that are challenging in recognition, diagnosis and treatment approaches, and to enhance the knowledge and awareness for these atypical parkinsonism including Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), Corticobasal Syndrome (CBS) and Dementia with Lewy Body (DLB) from diagnosis to treatment among neurology residents, general neurologists and junior movement disorders specialists.

Learning objectives: Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Learn the common and “atypical” presentations of PSP, MSA, CBS and DLB, and recognize the clinical clues with phenomenological approach to atypical forms.
  2. Recognize the current definition and classification of PSP, MSA, CBS, and DLB.
  3. Focus on the differential diagnosis with clinical, neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers based diagnostic approach to PSP, MSA, CBS and DLB.
  4. Establish an appropriate pharmacological/nonpharmacological treatment algorithm for the relevant atypical forms of parkinsonism.
  5. Recognize the recent advances in research and therapy of atypical parkinsonism.
